211 Service Requests

Overview

Every day, thousands of people in our region are struggling to put food on the table, keep the lights on, and keep a roof over their head. 2-1-1 is a 24/7 telephone helpline (also available via text and chat) that helps prevent hunger, utility shut-offs and homelessness when people have nowhere else to turn. During each call, our Resource Navigators skillfully identify an individual’s immediate needs and connect them to services and resources that address the full spectrum of needs discovered through a thoughtful and compassionate conversation.

Preprocessing/Formatting

When working with the data tables below, it's important to understand that they were obtained from different data management systems. Consequently, while the field names are consistent across the two tables, some of the actual values will differ. For instance, the county value is inferred from ZIP code in the 2020-2023 table (sometimes resulting in ambiguity, represented by a pipe-delimited list of possible county values), while in the 2023-2025 table, the county value is pulled directly from the raw data. Another difference is that the 2020-2023 table was obtained from the United Way of Southwestern PA and represents all calls/requests fielded through their system. The 2023-2025 table was obtained from the United Way of Pennsylvania, and represents the result of filtering requests down to those in the 25 counties in Western Pennsylvania.
